Position Title: Independent Living (IL) Specialist Expansion — Part-Time Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Southwest Georgia (Expansion: 14-county service area)
Reports To: Program Director / Executive Director
Funding Source: GVRA Independent Living Expansion Contract (FY26)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Independent Living (IL) Specialist provides Independent Living core services in accordance with the Rehabilitation Act and the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) Independent Living Expansion Contract in Southwest Georgia. This role promotes independence, community integration, self-sufficiency, and consumer directed decision-making for individuals with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
● Provide Independent Living core services including Information & Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, Peer Counseling, Advocacy, and Transition services.
● Develop, implement, and maintain Individualized Independent Living Plans (ILPs). ● Complete service documentation and case notes within required timelines. ● Respond to consumer inquiries within required timeframes and initiate services promptly.
● Conduct outreach activities and represent BAIN in assigned counties. ● Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and monitoring activities. ● Collaborate with staff, partners, and GVRA representatives.
● Maintain confidentiality and comply with ADA, Section 504, WIOA, and GVRA policies.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, rehabilitation, or related field OR equivalent experience.
● Knowledge of Independent Living philosophy and disability rights. ● Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills. ● Ability to travel within the assigned service area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Lived experience with disability.
● Experience working in a Center for Independent Living or similar community-based program.
● Familiarity with state or federally funded contracts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & REQUIREMENTS
This position involves a combination of office-based, community-based, and virtual service delivery. Evening or weekend hours may be required for outreach or events. Reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
FUNDING CONTINGENCY STATEMENT
This position is contingent upon the availability and continuation of GVRA contract funding. Continuation of employment is dependent on satisfactory performance and continued funding.
